Geldard’s have been serving Bury and the surrounding areas since 1958. A well known dry-cleaners with a good reputation and now the only dry cleaners within walking distance of Bury town centre.
Paul and the team at Geldard’s have over 60 years combined experience working in the dry-cleaning industry. Paul started working at Geldard’s as a Saturday lad when he was just 12, a hard working young lad that never missed a day in work (apart from the odd holiday)! He soon became a permanent fixture at Geldard’s after leaving school and has now owned the business since 2011. Alongside Paul, is his Mum Barbara, who run’s the shop counter and Rach who is a whiz with our steam irons!
Geldard’s was founded by ex-Everton, Bolton and England international footballer Albert Geldard, in 1958, he became the youngest player to appear in the Football League at just 15 years and 158 days old. In 1933 he made his England debut in Rome against Italy drawing 1-1. Geldard was part of the Everton side that won the 1933 FA Cup Final with a 3–0 win over Manchester City at Wembley registering an assist, crossing the ball in for Everton’s third goal. Albert then signed for Bolton before he was enlisted in the 53rd field regiment RA (Bolton Artillery) in May 1939 to fight in the Second World War along with 14 of his Bolton teammates. Albert was forced to retire from football in 1947 with a knee injury. Albert began to open up dry-cleaning shops in Eccles, Radcliffe and two in Bury.
